A one-of-a-kind winery carrying on the Brunello lineage

In the Maremma region of southern Tuscany, Italy, an area of abundant nature, Castello di Montepo was founded as "a new challenge for the Biondi-Santi family" amidst rolling hills.
The owner is Jacopo Biondi Santi, great-grandson of Ferruccio Biondi Santi, known as the father of Brunello di Montalcino.
Inheriting the lineage of the prestigious Biondi-Santi family, he continues to pursue the potential of Sangiovese in a new land different from Montalcino.
Castello di Montepo is more than just a winery of a prestigious family.
It is one of Tuscany's leading luxury wineries, where legendary lineage, unique terroir, and innovative philosophy converge.
A New Challenge for the Biondi-Santi Family

The Castello di Montepo estate, located outside Scansano in Tuscany, encompasses vineyards, olive groves, forests, wine cellars, a winery, and the family residence.
Of the vast 600-hectare property, 50 hectares are managed as vineyards, where winemaking takes place in harmony with the rich natural environment.
In 1994, Castello di Montepo's first bottling was produced.
Coincidentally, that was also the year Tancredi, the eldest son who now supports the winery alongside Jacopo, was born.
The family's history and the winery's journey are intertwined by fate, passed down through generations.
A special land where "BBS11" truly shines
The greatest characteristic of Castello di Montepo is its ideal environment for cultivating the Sangiovese Grosso "BBS11 clone," an exclusive asset of the Biondi-Santi family.
The vineyards are located on south to southwest-facing slopes at an altitude of 300 to 460 meters, benefiting from warm sunshine and cool breezes.
Furthermore, the coppice surrounding the vineyards and olive groves naturally regulates humidity, ventilation, and diurnal temperature variations, supporting healthy grape cultivation.
Currently, a major mission of the Biondi-Santi family is to spread awareness of this special BBS11 clone worldwide and preserve its value for the future.
Science proves a unique terroir

Essential to understanding the quality of Castello di Montepo is its exceptionally unique soil.
The soil here is primarily clayey soil containing Eocene schist, with complex layers of flysch, sedimentary rock, sandstone, and marl, forming a lean, gravelly soil with calcareous sandstone.
Such geology imparts rich minerals and a precise structure to the grapes, creating an unparalleled individuality.
Regarding this land, experts from the University of Pisa and the University of Florence reached a conclusion after comprehensive research into its geology, plant ecosystem, and microclimate.
"This land is where Biondi-Santi's wines truly shine."
This scientific backing is what makes Castello di Montepo a truly unique entity.
Tuscany's Luxury Wine, Recognized Worldwide
Cutting-edge winemaking technology, a unique terroir, and the prestige of the Biondi-Santi family.
The wines of Castello di Montepo, where all these elements culminate, are beloved in top hotels and fine restaurants both in Italy and abroad.
Their presence transcends the mere category of Tuscan wine, captivating wine lovers worldwide as "niche luxury wines" chosen by a select few.
A family's future, passed down through generations

Currently, Jacopo Biondi Santi, together with his sons Tancredi, Clemente, and Clio, is forging new winemaking endeavors with an eye toward the family's future.
At the heart of this, his eldest son Tancredi is already involved in winemaking alongside Jacopo, progressing as the next generation's leader.
To evolve towards the future while preserving a legendary lineage.
That is the very essence of the Castello di Montepo winery.
