Tuscany

Tuscany: Italy's leading region for fine wines

This beautiful state is characterized by rolling hills and landscapes that evoke Renaissance paintings, much like the images that first come to mind when we think of Italy. Instead of monoculture, there is a tradition of cultivating various crops on a single farm, and traditional landscapes where grapes and olives are grown in balance still remain.

Civilization in Tuscany flourished with the appearance of the Etruscans in the 9th century BC, who were known for their advanced viticulture and winemaking techniques.

Having triumphed over Siena in the struggle for control of Tuscany, Florence, led by the Medici family who amassed wealth through banking, prospered greatly in the 14th and 15th centuries and became the heart of the Renaissance.
