Product Details
Syrah is a noble Mediterranean grape variety well-suited to sunny, dry regions like Sicily. For this reason, Planeta is confident in the potential and future of this variety. The historic Marroccoli vineyard, preserving its beautiful traditional landscape, is located at an altitude of 400m, cultivating a modern style of Syrah while maintaining the varietal's character.
Classification: Menfi DOC
Grape Variety: 100% Syrah
Tasting: A classic vintage that achieved ideal ripeness. When young, it offered rich aromas reminiscent of black cherries, blueberries, licorice, and cocoa, with refined tannins and translucent fruit. Now, with aging, notes of spice, dark chocolate, and a hint of balsamic have emerged, evolving into a more complex and profound style. Its well-structured framework remains intact, and further development through long-term aging can be expected from this vintage.
Production Method: After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, and the must is transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. Depending on the stage of fermentation, short pump-overs (circulation) are performed twice a day for 12-18 minutes to draw out the wine's complexity while slightly reducing stress on the skins. The fermentation period gradually increases in temperature, starting at 14-15°C, rising to 20-22°C, and finishing at 25-27°C, with cooling in the final stage. After alcoholic fermentation, the tanks are filled with wine from the same vineyard, and the wine is kept in contact with the skins for 18-20 days of delestage. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for 14 months of aging. Allier oak barrels are used for aging (35% new barrels, 35% second-year barrels, 30% third-year barrels).
Pairing: Lamb, game, roasted beef, aged cheese
