Product Details

Syrah is a noble Mediterranean grape variety well-suited to sunny, dry regions like Sicily. For this reason, Planeta is confident in the potential and future of this variety. The historic and picturesque Marroccoli vineyard, located at an altitude of 400m, cultivates Syrah in a modern style while preserving the unique character of the variety.

Classification: Menfi DOC

Grape variety: 100% Syrah

Tasting: As expected from a vintage with ideal climatic conditions, it is characterized by balanced fruitiness and structure. At that time, notes of black cherry, plum, licorice, and spices were harmoniously balanced, expressing the varietal character cleanly. Now, with aging, notes of cocoa, leather, and dried herbs expand, and the tannins are more silky. The acidity firmly supports the structure, showing a classic and calm expression with a long finish.

Production method: After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, and the juice is transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. During the fermentation process, short pump-overs (circulation) are performed twice a day for 12-18 minutes to gently extract the complexity of the wine while minimizing stress on the skins. The fermentation period gradually increases in temperature from an initial 14-15°C, temporarily reaching 20-22°C, and finishing at 25-27°C, then cooling at the final stage. After alcoholic fermentation, the tank is filled with wine from the same vineyard, and ceramation (maceration) is performed for 18-20 days while in contact with the skins and wine, after which the wine is racked. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after which it is transferred to French oak barrels and aged for 14 months. Aging uses Allier oak barrels (35% new barrels, 35% second-year barrels, 30% third-year barrels).

Pairing: Lamb, game, roasted beef, aged cheeses
