Product Details
Syrah is a noble Mediterranean grape variety, well-suited to sunny, dry regions like Sicily. For this reason, Planeta has confidence in the potential and future of this variety. The Marroccoli vineyard, which retains its beautiful traditional landscape, is located at an altitude of 400m, cultivating a modern style of Syrah while preserving the character of the variety.
Rating: Menfi DOC
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
Tasting: Deep ruby color. Rich aromas of blackberry and dark plum with nuances of spice and licorice. Full-bodied on the palate with a perfect balance of firm tannins and rich fruit flavors. The finish is long, with lingering dark chocolate and oak notes, offering a complex and powerful vintage.
Production method: After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, and the juice is transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. During fermentation, short pump-overs (circulation) are performed twice a day for 12-18 minutes to gently extract complexity from the wine while minimizing stress on the skins. The fermentation period is approximately 12-14 days. The temperature is gradually increased from 14-15°C initially, to 20-22°C temporarily, and 25-27°C at the end, then cooled in the final stage. After alcoholic fermentation, the tanks are filled with wine from the same vineyard, and maceration with skin contact takes place for 18-20 days, followed by racking. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine is transferred to French oak barrels and aged for 14 months. Aging uses Allier oak barrels (35% new, 35% second-use, 30% third-use).
Pairing: Lamb, game, roasted beef, aged cheeses
