This is the top wine produced by Frescobaldi at Castello di Nipozzano in the Chianti Rufina region. In 1855, Vittorio, an ancestor of the Frescobaldi family, returned to Tuscany from Burgundy, France, where he had been studying viticulture. He then planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, which he brought back from France, in Nipozzano. More than a century before the birth of modern "Super Tuscans," he recognized the potential of Nipozzano's terroir and was convinced that exceptional and special wines could be made there. Since the 2013 vintage, Sangiovese has been added in place of Merlot, further expressing its Tuscan character. Mormoreto means "whisper." This name was given because a very pleasant breeze blows through the Mormoreto vineyard, and the sound of leaves brushing against each other sounds like "whispers."
