Castelgiocondo was one of the first four wineries to begin producing Brunello in the 1800s. In the 1970s, driven by courageous individuals who wanted to take the first step, an unusual attempt was made to plant Merlot in clay soils. This great challenge led to the birth of Lamione in 1991, a lonely knight standing valiantly and powerfully in the Montalcino landscape. Tim Mondavi, who visited Castelgiocondo and tasted this wine while looking for a partner to embark on winemaking in Italy, was deeply impressed by Lamione. It became the impetus for the later creation of "Luce," a joint venture between the Mondavi and Frescobaldi families, and is a great and solitary presence that exudes a unique and rare character.

Classification: Toscana IGT

Grape variety: Merlot 100%

Tasting: A deep, dense ruby red, with wonderful aromas of cherry confiture and prune on the palate. Enchanting aromas of rhubarb, pencil lead, dark chocolate, licorice, and roasted coffee. On the palate, a warm, mellow, and refreshing taste spreads. This is a great Montalcino Merlot that expresses power and superb richness, with wonderfully dense yet silky tannins.

Winemaking Method: The vineyard is located at an altitude of 300m, facing southwest, with marine clay soil. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand in baskets. After being transported to the winery, destemmed grapes are hand-sorted and aged for 24 months in French oak barrels (80% new), followed by 12 months of bottle aging.

Pairing: Grilled lamb, sukiyaki, and other rich meat dishes, aged cheese, etc.
