A Super Valpolicella created to commemorate 650 years since Dante's descendants began living in Valpolicella.

Classification: Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC

Grape Varieties: Corvina 70%, Rondinella 20%, Molinara 10% (Serego Alighieri Clone)

Tasting: 2003 marks 650 years since Dante's descendants began living in Valpolicella, and this masterpiece, which should be called Super Valpolicella, was created to commemorate it. Deep ruby red color. Abundant and overflowing aromas of cherry, with ripe blackberry and plum aromas polishing the bouquet. It has a warm, smooth texture and a well-structured taste. Flavors of cherry and spice adorn the finish, with a long lingering aftertaste.

Winemaking Method: Grapes harvested in early October are fermented in stainless steel tanks at a higher temperature than usual (27-29°C). After malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to another vessel for bâtonnage. In January, semi-dried grapes are added for secondary fermentation at 18-20°C, then aged for 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels of 25-60HL and for 6 months in 600L cherry wood barrels. Aging in cherry wood barrels creates the elegant style unique to Serego Alighieri. Bottle aging is a minimum of 6 months.

Pairing: Red meat dishes, game dishes, cheese
