About the Project

"Costasera Contemporary Art" is a project where world-renowned artists collaborate with Masi's iconic, premium wine, "Amarone Costasera." Artists from countries with historical ties to Masi are selected to create works inspired by the wine.

2019 Artist: He Xi

For 2019, Chinese artist He Xi was chosen. He is a master painter who creates sophisticated worlds on silk and rice paper using traditional Chinese pigments and ink.

He Xi projects "the human condition" onto the natural world, pursuing the theme of "freedom from all constraints." Labels reproducing his delicate works beautifully adorn specially selected aged bottles of Costasera 2001 vintage.

2001 Vintage: Flowering and fruit set progressed smoothly thanks to favorable weather conditions. After a long summer drought, beneficial rain at the end of August restored grape maturation. The harvest of red grapes began after mid-September. In terms of yield, the result was about 10-15% less than the previous year. Although rainfall hindered harvesting in some areas, the condition of the grapes was generally very good, and sugar levels were sufficiently high. The appassimento process also yielded very good results.
