About the Project

“Costasera Contemporary Art” is a project where world-renowned artists collaborate with Masi's iconic, top-tier wine, Amarone Costasera. Artists from countries with historical ties to Masi are selected to create works inspired by the wine.

2017 Artist: Susan A. Point (Canada)

For 2017, the artist selected was Susan A. Point. She is the most important standard-bearer of "Coast Salish Art." This art movement draws inspiration from the history, traditions, and symbolic motifs of the Indigenous people known as "Coast Salish," who have inhabited the west coast of Canada for over 10,000 years.

Susan A. Point is also the founder of this movement, which revitalized Indigenous artistic expressions that had been forgotten during colonization. A label reproducing her powerful work gracefully adorns the bottles of the specially selected Costasera 2000 vintage.

2000 Vintage: The winter was particularly dry but without severe cold. A warm and sunny spring led to early flowering, and moderate rainfall allowed the bunches to form gradually. June was unusually hot, but July saw temperatures below average with rainy weather. August was hot and dry, followed by sunny weather in September. Although harvesting was partly interrupted by rain, the grapes were very healthy, with thick skins, an excellent balance of sugar and acidity, and very intense color. Overall yields were 10-15% below average. While the climate conditions during the initial drying period for the grapes were not entirely ideal, the advanced system employed in the appassimento facility played a significant role in safeguarding this vintage and ultimately leading it to good to very good quality.

Classification: Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOC

Grape Varieties: Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta

Pairing: Meat dishes including game, aged cheeses
